Damiao Gorge

Damiao Gorge is a cultural tourism attraction.

Located on the Beijiang River section south of Lixi Town, Damiao Gorge stretches approximately 6 kilometers. The gorge is flanked by towering mountains on both sides, creating a perilous landscape, with the narrowest point being just 150 meters wide. Before the construction of the Feilaixia Dam, the waters here flowed swiftly, and temples were built along the banks to pray for safety — hence the name Damiao Gorge, meaning “Great Temple Gorge.” It was also the site of an ancient battlefield where General Zhu Wenhuan of the late Song Dynasty led troops to resist the southward invasion of Yuan forces, ultimately meeting his end in battle. Visitors can pay tribute here, evoking a sense of historical reflection.
