Introduction to Tangtang, Fogang County:

Tangtang Hot Spring in Fogang County is the earliest recorded hot spring in Guangdong Province. The Song Dynasty text “Taiping Huanyu Ji” describes Tangtang Hot Spring as follows: “The spring flows ceaselessly, with steam rising like mist. It can heat food, and washing sores in it leads to immediate recovery.” This shows that our ancestors were already using hot springs for medical treatment. According to tests by the Conghua Seismic Station, Tangtang Hot Spring originates from groundwater 150 meters underground. Due to its unique geological structure, the hot spring continues to flow steadily, reaching temperatures as high as 87 degrees Celsius.

The book “China Geological Yearbook” once mentioned that “Tangtang’s hot spring is the only radon hot spring in China with an outlet temperature reaching 87 degrees Celsius.” According to water quality analysis reports from Zhongshan Hospital and the Guangdong Academy of Medical Sciences, Tangtang Hot Spring is characterized by low mineralization and high temperature. It especially contains radon — a type of hot spring that is globally recognized for its therapeutic value. The Life Research Institute of Sun Yat-sen University of Medical Sciences has certified this hot spring as a highly medicinal high-temperature radon spring. Medical literature records that the therapeutic effects of radon mainly come from the ionizing radiation it produces, which influences the physicochemical processes of human tissues. This type of hot spring can treat various chronic diseases, and radon spring sanatoriums around the world often focus on bath therapy.
