The Octagonal Temple was first built in the 40th year of the Kangxi reign during the Qing Dynasty (1701) and has a history of over 300 years. It has five stories in an octagonal shape, stands 26.7 meters tall, and except for the first floor, which is made of sandy stone, the rest of the floors are constructed with blue bricks. It is said that the outer walls were once manually polished, giving the structure a beautiful and intact appearance — not leaning or cracked. Despite the long years, it still stands firmly. As the tallest ancient pagoda existing in the county, it is a county-level cultural relic protection unit. According to local legend, the designer of the pagoda put great effort into pinpointing its location — 60 meters directly in front of it lies a square water well. When the sun shines brightly, the reflection of the pagoda can be seen in the well, resembling a pen lying in an inkstone, symbolizing the emergence of many scholars.

It borders Shixing County, Lianping County of Heyuan City, and Quannan County of Jiangxi Province. The town is 23 kilometers from the county seat, Longxian, and is traversed by Provincial Highways S244 and S245. The town administers 22 village committees, 2 neighborhood committees, as well as jointly operated forest and pasture farms, comprising 331 villager groups. It has a total population of 52,728, including 48,954 agricultural residents, making it a key border town of Wengyuan County.
