Tomb of Lian Shu and His Wife

The Tomb of Lian Shu and His Wife is a cultural heritage site protected by Lianping County.

The Tomb of Lian Shu and His Wife is located on Huangniling Hill in Yuanshan Town, Lianping County. This tomb was reconstructed in the 24th year of the Republic of China (1935), faces northeast while sitting southwest, and covers an area of approximately 12 square meters. It has a brick structure. The tombstone is inscribed with “Tomb of the 18th Generation Ancestor Lian Gong Boying, the Esteemed Lord, and His Wife Madam Liu, the Venerable Lady.”

Lian Shu (1821–1838), courtesy name Xinfu and style name Boying, was a native of Lianwu Residence on Dongchang Street, Yuanshan Town, and an Imperial Scholar. From the ages of 11 to 16, he authored historical works such as Table of Officials of the Later Han Dynasty, Corrections to Annotations in the Book of the Later Han, Examination of the Posthumous Titles of the Ming Dynasty, Geographic Study of the Five Dynasties, Table of Officials of the Western Qin, and Table of Officials of the Northern Zhou. On the seventh day of the fifth month in the 18th year of the Daoguang reign (1838), he died of tuberculosis at the post of his father, Lian Tingshuang (Prefect of Songjiang). Several of these historical treatises were later included in the Supplement to the Twenty-Five Histories.

In 1986, the Lianping County People's Government designated it as a cultural heritage protection unit.

It covers an area of about 320 square kilometers with a population of approximately 65,000. The terrain is higher in the north and lower in the south, featuring a mild climate, abundant rainfall, and rich resources of forests, minerals, and hydropower. The town administers 16 village committees and 5 urban communities, serving as the political, economic, cultural, and educational center of the county. The town system was established in the 7th year of the Chongzhen reign of the Ming Dynasty (1634), and it has long been the site of both state and county governance.
