Dashunjing Cliff Inscriptions

The Dashunjing Cliff Inscriptions are a cultural relic protection unit of Lianping County.

The Dashunjing Cliff Inscriptions are located in Dashunjing and Wild Duck Pool in Jiutan Village, Youxi Township, Lianping County. These are two cliff inscriptions related to mountain excavation and road construction, carved in the 21st (1593) and 22nd (1594) years of the Wanli era of the Ming Dynasty. The Dashunjing Cliff Inscription is engraved vertically on the stone wall by the riverbank of Dashunjing, featuring the three characters “大嵩径” (Dashunjing), with an inscription surface measuring two meters in length and 1.2 meters in width. Each character is 0.6 meters in diameter and 0.01 meters deep, carved in running script and incised in intaglio. The upper inscription reads: “Written by Li Tao, Administrative Commissioner and local resident, in the year of Gui Si, Wanli.” The lower inscription states: “Repaired by Zheng Deying, Patrol Inspector of Zhongxin, Heyuan County.” The Wild Duck Pool Cliff Inscription is carved on the stone wall by the roadside, with the title “Record of Dashunjing.” The full text contains approximately 348 characters, with four characters faded and illegible, but the rest remain identifiable. It was recorded by Li Tao, Administrative Commissioner and local resident, and erected by local elders and villagers such as Lai Chongxue and Zhai Rencong from Zhongxinli. The inscription documents the historical struggle of local farmers against rulers during the Zhengde and Jiajing eras of the Ming Dynasty, as well as the efforts led by Zheng Deying, Patrol Inspector of Zhongxin, Heyuan County, during the Wanli era, who donated his salary and recruited workers to open the Dashunjing rural road, connecting the traffic between Jiulian and Youxi.

In 1985, the Lianping County People's Government designated it as a cultural relic protection unit.
