Shuixi Cliff Inscriptions

The Shuixi Cliff Inscriptions are a cultural relic protection unit of Lianping County.

The Shuixi Cliff Inscriptions are located on the stone wall beside the road about 2 kilometers southeast of Xiaowu Village, Tianyuan Township, Lianping County. These inscriptions were engraved to commemorate the military campaign led by General Commander Yu Dayou and others in suppressing the peasant uprising led by Li Yayuan. The campaign concluded with their triumphant return to the capital in the 45th year of the Jiajing reign during the Ming Dynasty (1658). The inscribed text covers an area of 6 square meters, featuring 60 characters, each approximately 0.20 meters in size, carved to a depth of 0.05 meters. The calligraphy appears irregular and varies in depth, likely carved with a sword. The full text reads: “On the 7th day of the 2nd month in the year Bingyin of the Jiajing reign of the Ming Dynasty, General Commander Yu Dayou, Vice Commissioner Zhang Zixian, Councilor Zhu Gao, and Militia Leader Wei Kouzhi led a combined force of Han and local troops to suppress and eliminate the rebel forces led by Li Yayuan and over twenty thousand insurgents. The campaign was completed by the end of April, and this inscription marks their dignified return.”

In 1985, the People’s Government of Lianping County designated the site as a cultural relic protection unit.
