Shangping Revolutionary Martyrs' Monument

The Shangping Revolutionary Martyrs' Monument is a classic red tourism attraction.

The Shangping Revolutionary Martyrs' Monument is located 60 meters west of Shuikou Bridge in Bulian Village, Shangping Town, Lianping County (originally built in Shangping Market, it was relocated to its current site in December 1980 due to street construction).

The monument faces north and has a square tower shape, consisting of an inscribed stone and main body, constructed from bricks, stones, and lime. It stands 8 meters tall, with a square base measuring 2 meters on each side. The front of the main body is trapezoidal, inscribed with the black regular-script characters “Revolutionary Martyrs’ Monument.” It covers an area of 100 square meters.

On March 4, 1950, a group of bandits led by Xie Chongan and Xie Shuru colluded with Yuan Wafa, a bandit leader from Jiangxi, and organized over 200 bandits to launch an attack ——, besieging the residence of a platoon of about 20 soldiers from the county's anti-bandit task force stationed at Shangping Market (along with political work team members and 12 armed police officers escorting them to Shangping) at the “Yisan Building.” The soldiers inside bravely resisted, but ultimately, due to being outnumbered, more than 30 comrades sacrificed their lives heroically. After multiple anti-bandit campaigns, the bandits were eventually eradicated. Bandit leader Xie Shuru was killed during the campaign, while Xie Chongan, Yuan Wafa, and others were captured and executed.

To commemorate the revolutionary martyrs who sacrificed their lives in the anti-bandit battle at Shangping, the local government established this Revolutionary Martyrs' Monument.
