Guizhong Revolutionary Martyrs' Monument

The Guizhong Revolutionary Martyrs' Monument is a classic site of red tourism.

The Guizhong Revolutionary Martyrs' Monument is located on Tongluoling Mountain in Guitang Village, Bitou Town, Lianping County, on the right side of the road from Bitou to Guizhong, about 1 kilometer from the Guizhong market. The monument faces southwest and is built in the shape of a square tower, constructed with red bricks, lime, and sand. It stands 4 meters tall and 1 meter wide, covering a total area of over 300 square meters. The front of the monument features eight large characters reading “Eternal Glory to the Revolutionary Martyrs,” and the base of the monument is inscribed with the names of revolutionary martyrs who sacrificed their lives during the 1950 bandit suppression campaign in Guizhong.

On May 8, 1950, Yuan Wafa, a bandit leader from Jiangxi, infiltrated Guizhong, gathered local landlords and organized an armed group, plotting to launch a rebellion—luckily, the plot was discovered in time. A company from the Lianping County Brigade, over 100 militiamen from Bitou and Guizhong, as well as one platoon of People's Liberation Army soldiers, joined the battle against the bandits. After several months of anti-bandit operations, the bandits were eliminated, safeguarding the newly established people’s government and the lives and property of the local people. In the course of the Guizhong bandit suppression campaign, 19 comrades, including Company Commander Liu Changsheng, made the ultimate sacrifice.

To commemorate the revolutionary martyrs, the local government erected this monument in 1954. It was renovated in 1981.
