The Battlefield Site of the Attack on Lianping by the Second Division of the Nationalist Revolutionary Army of Guangdong is located at Qingcaojing, Jingkouwu, Huhu Village, Yuanshan Town, Lianping County. Qingcaojing is a small valley between two wild mountain ridges, approximately 3 li in length.

In June 1922, warlord Chen Jiongming openly betrayed the Nationalist Revolution in Guangzhou. Later, unable to hold his position in Guangzhou, Chen fled to Huizhou and occupied the Dongjiang area. In early summer 1924, Chen Jiongming sent Li Yibiao, commander of the Fourth Army, along with his subordinate division commander Mai Shengfang, leading over 3,000 troops to Lianping County in the upper reaches of the Dongjiang River, aiming to extend their influence into the Jiulian Mountain region. In March 1924, Sun Yat-sen reorganized the former Guangdong Army and the Eastern Expeditionary Force into the Nationalist Revolutionary Army of Guangdong, establishing the Second Division of the Nationalist Revolutionary Army of Guangdong. Zhang Mande was appointed as division commander, with Ye Jianying serving as chief of staff. In July of the same year, to support allied forces in their attack on Huizhou, Sun Yat-sen ordered Zhang Mande and Ye Jianying to lead their troops to Lianping to engage the rebel forces of Li Yibiao and Mai Shengfang. On July 15, Zhang Mande and Ye Jianying arrived at Yingde Hetou by train from Guangzhou to Shaoguan. The next morning, they traveled from Baibu through Dazhen, then along the route of Wengcheng, Longxian, Nanpu, and Beitou. On the 23rd, they reached Taohuaping Shuijin Cave and advanced along rugged mountain paths directly to the outskirts of Lianping.

At dawn on the 24th, the battle for the attack on the city by the Second Division of the Nationalist Revolutionary Army of Guangdong commenced. Ye Jianying personally led the artillery unit to select a favorable position (on the mountaintop at the border between Mixi and Huhu within Lianping), and directed artillery fire against the enemy on Zhoulung Mountain. By noon, the rebel division commander Mai Shengfang and his troops were stubbornly defending the Qingcaojing area. The officers and soldiers of the Second Division of the Nationalist Revolutionary Army of Guangdong fought bravely, killing Mai Shengfang, the enemy division commander. The forces of Li and Mai fell into disarray and were routed. In the afternoon, hundreds of troops from Chen Jiongming’s Second Army launched a reinforcement effort along two routes—one seizing Zhoulung Mountain, the other advancing into Huanglukeng of Nanhu and reaching Erdoushui. Under unfavorable circumstances, Zhang Mande and Ye Jianying ordered their troops to quickly retreat. In this battle, nearly 100 soldiers of the Nationalist Revolutionary Army of Guangdong were killed, and more than 100 from Li Yibiao’s forces were slain. Subsequently, Zhang Mande and Ye Jianying led their troops back to Longxian. In August, due to the brewing rebellion of the Guangzhou Merchant Corps, Sun Yat-sen ordered Zhang Mande and Ye Jianying to swiftly withdraw from Lianping and return to Guangzhou.

In May 2011, a memorial stele was erected for protection by the Lianping County Committee and County Government.
