The Site of the Shuixi Battle is a classic red tourism attraction.

The Site of the Shuixi Battle is located at Xinyue Walled House in Shuixi Village, Tianyuan Town, Lianping County.

After March 1948, the Jiangbei People's Self-Defense Corps issued important directives regarding the counter-encirclement struggle. It required that under the situation of the enemy’s focused offensive, troops, key militia members, and cadres of the peasant association should move to mountainous areas to avoid the enemy’s sharp attacks, engage in maneuvering warfare, and preserve strength. In line with these directives, Ye Lianming, Ye Shaoxiong, and others led the Flying Tigers unit to carry out operations in mountainous regions such as Xindong, Hetou, Daxi, Xidong, and Banjiang in Heyuan. During this time, apart from setting up checkpoints at key traffic routes, Kuomintang forces also searched and raided remote mountainous areas to suppress guerrilla fighters. In early June, the enemy intensified its encirclement of Shuixi. Led by Tan Fengxuan, a local landlord in Shuixi and director of the “Bandit Suppression” Office along the Xinlian River, a joint defense team of over 30 men was assembled to block the routes used by our forces and coordinate with the KMT regular army’s 276th Regiment of the 92nd Brigade in an attempt to annihilate the people’s armed forces.

On June 3, in order to crush the enemy’s encirclement, leaders of the Jiangbei People's Self-Defense Corps including Li Feng, Yan Shen, Zheng Dadong, and Zhang Ping led over 200 soldiers and militiamen on a night march from Xindong. They walked more than 30 li (approximately 15 kilometers) to surround the joint defense team in Shuixi. The demolition squad and assault team were tasked with the assault mission. After the explosives were detonated, the assault team launched an attack. However, the enemy, relying on their solid defensive structures, prevented our forces from successfully breaching their positions despite repeated assaults. The battle lasted from the early hours of June 3 until the afternoon, and our forces still failed to penetrate the enemy stronghold. Unfortunately, Flying Tigers Captain Ye Shaoxiong, Squad Leader Zhu Chengyang, and soldiers Xie Jieyun, Pan Xumu, and Zhou Wenfa were killed in action. Given the disparity in strength and the enemy’s fortified positions, the troops subsequently withdrew from Shuixi and regrouped in Zhangtiankeng, Matou, Xinfeng for rest and to seek other opportunities for engagement.
