The Battle Site of the Cenggao Mountain Engagement is located on Cenggao Mountain in Cenggao Village, Longjie Town, Lianping County.

In August 1947, the command headquarters of the Jiangbei People's Self-Defense Corps led guerrilla squads, the Steel Company, the Flying Tigers Unit, the Heroes Unit, and the Northeast Unit — totaling over 400 personnel — to set up camp around Panwu in Yangfutang, near Matou and Baishou. On August 12, the enemy launched attacks along four fronts in an attempt to annihilate our forces. The first front was led by Captain Luo of the 152nd Division, who commanded over 500 troops from Meikeng, Xinfeng; the second front consisted of over 500 personnel from the Security Battalion (including an artillery company), advancing from Lianping; the third front was led by Xie Yuochen of the Lianping Road Protection Brigade with around 200 bandits approaching from Xicao; the fourth front involved over 100 officers from the Xinfeng Political Police Unit blocking the advance from Matou and Baishou. A total of over 1,400 enemy troops aggressively advanced toward Yangfutang, unaware that our forces had already received intelligence and evacuated the area, leaving the enemy empty-handed.

After failing to find our troops, the enemy began searching the surrounding area. To strike back, our main force split into two groups to seize commanding heights on the mountain: the first group, led by Xie Tang and Ye Ping, consisting of the Steel Company, the Heroes Unit, and the Northeast Unit, took control of the highest peak traversing through Cenggao; the second group, led by Ye Shaoxiong of the Flying Tigers Unit, secured the strategic high ground at Yangfutang. After 20 minutes of fierce combat, both mutually supporting and adjacent peaks were taken by our forces. Enemy Captain Luo of the 152nd Division climbed a hill north of Yangfutang, mistakenly believing our troops had not withdrawn, and began gesturing commands for his unit to advance. Zheng Dadong, positioned atop Cenggao Mountain, clearly observed the enemy movements through binoculars and immediately dispatched Zheng Ban and Qiu Yulong to lead the first and second squads of the Flying Tigers Unit to engage the enemy. Qiu Yulong’s squad swiftly approached the enemy from the left and launched a sudden, intense attack, killing over ten enemy soldiers on the spot, including the death of the battalion commander. Upon learning that their command post had been attacked, the enemy forces approaching from the left side of Cenggao near Baishou turned back to launch a rescue. Our troops continued fighting the enemy until 1:00 PM, repelling two consecutive assaults. At this point, reinforcements from the Beijiang Detachment arrived at Cenggao Mountain, launching a surprise attack on the Xinfeng County Police Unit stationed at the entrance of Cenggao Cave, forcing the enemy to flee.

The battle lasted until around 7:00 PM. A total of 20 enemy soldiers were killed and over 10 injured; our side suffered 2 fatalities and 2 injuries. This engagement demonstrated the bravery and skill of our forces, who with just over 400 troops successfully repelled a frenzied siege by more than 1,400 enemy soldiers. It greatly boosted morale, enhanced military prestige, and earned widespread support and praise from the local people.
