The Site of the Intelligent Elimination of "Big Gun Flame" Battle is located on Laoruan Pit Street (now around Ruan Pit Primary School) in Ruan Pit Village, Xishan Town, Lianping County.

The former Ruan Pit Township of Xishan Town had a small market town where the Kuomintang Ruan Pit Township government and the joint defense team were stationed. The leader of the Ruan Pit Township Joint Defense Team, Ye Shengyan, nicknamed "Big Gun Flame," used the backing of the Kuomintang bandit troops and commanded an armed group of about 70–80 men. He oppressed the local people in the countryside, committing all kinds of evil deeds, which made him deeply hated by the populace. In the winter of 1948, Zheng Jun, leader of the Flying Tigers squad of the Liannan Guerrilla Unit, and political instructor Zhang Jue led guerrilla fighters operating in the Ruan Pit area. They often heard the local people’s heart-wrenching accusations against "Big Gun Flame" for oppressing the villagers. Filled with righteous indignation, they resolved to rid the people of this menace.

In December 1948, Zheng Jun convened a meeting with guerrilla fighters at a mountain hermitage in Chuan Dong to plan the steps for eliminating "Big Gun Flame." They intended to take advantage of the bustling market day to disguise some members and infiltrate the crowd, waiting for the right opportunity to eliminate "Big Gun Flame" intelligently. On the afternoon of December 25, Flying Tigers members Zheng Ban, Ye Chenggui, Liao Xing, and Ye Changgui pretended to be shopping and entered the Ruan Pit market. Calm and composed, they kept a certain distance apart, weaving through the crowd as they searched for "Big Gun Flame." Before long, the guerrillas spotted "Big Gun Flame" approaching a stall and forcibly taking items from the vendor. At that moment, there were few bystanders nearby and no soldiers standing guard — a perfect opportunity to act. Zheng Ban immediately signaled his comrades with a glance and whispered “Go,” then dashed forward and wrested the pistol from "Big Gun Flame’s" body. Caught off guard by the sudden assault, "Big Gun Flame" panicked. Acting swiftly, Ye Chenggui rushed up to "Big Gun Flame" and fired two shots directly into his chest. "Big Gun Flame" fell to the ground, blood splattering everywhere. The four Flying Tigers fighters quickly blended into the panicked crowd and withdrew from the Ruan Pit market. Though wounded, "Big Gun Flame" did not die instantly but crawled back to the township office while groaning in pain, crying out “Ouch!” and “Ouch!” before eventually dying after writhing on the ground. When local residents learned that the notorious Joint Defense captain "Big Gun Flame" had been gunned down by the Flying Tigers, everyone cheered with delight, feeling a great sense of relief.
