Former site of the New Track Guerrilla Activity Base

The former site of the New Track Guerrilla Activity Base is a classic red tourism attraction.

The former site of the New Track Guerrilla Activity Base is located in Zhongcun Village, Shangping Town, Lianping County. It consists of several mountain village cottages situated at the border between the mountainous area and Jiangxi Province to the north.

In November 1945, after the Third Detachment of the Dongjiang Column advanced into the Jiulian Mountains and decided to operate in dispersed units, Chen Yimin, head of the detachment’s political department, and Deng Fa, commander of the First Battalion, led a guerrilla squad of over 30 members through the winding paths of the Jiulian Mountain area before entering Shangping to establish a new revolutionary base. Upon arriving in Shangping, Chen Yimin and others, through connections with the underground party organization, got to know Xie Shanfu, a progressive youth from New Track. With his enthusiastic help, the guerrilla squad entered and set up camp in New Track, using it as their operational base to strike at the enemy from various directions. With the assistance of local impoverished peasants, the New Track Guerrillas actively carried out anti-Kuomintang suppression and targeted traitors and landlords. In February 1946, the New Track Guerrillas launched a surprise attack on Shangping Street, capturing the local reactionary landlords Xie Hanchen and Xie Shoumin, dealing a heavy blow to the enemy’s morale and inspiring the revolutionary spirit of the people of Shangping. This also laid a solid foundation for the later liberation of Shangping.

During July and August 1947, when the forces of the Jiulian Guerrilla Area attacked the Nationalist strongholds in Yangcun and Baisha, Jiangxi, they were stationed in New Track. The local residents of New Track provided intelligence, acted as guides, and gathered food supplies to support the troops. Leaders from the Jiulian Regional Committee and some leaders of the Third Detachment of the Dongjiang Column also visited New Track successively to carry out revolutionary activities. After 1950, residents of New Track gradually relocated, and the site became overgrown and abandoned.

In May 2011, the site was protected with a memorial stele erected by the Lianping County Committee and County Government.
