The Site of the Guidong Counteroffensive is located near Chating’an in Dahu Village, Potou Town, Lianping County, covering an area of about 500 square meters.

On August 1, 1948, a regiment of over 700 troops from the Kuomintang’s Zhou Jishi forces stationed in Wengyuan, along with the Lianping Militia and others, divided into three routes to carry out a “mopping-up” operation in areas such as Dahu, Tangtian, and Sankeng villages in Potou Town. The first route targeted San Shui; the second targeted Tangtian and Sankeng; the third targeted Shuikou. The main focus of the enemy’s three-pronged assault was to encircle the Dahu Village area. Led by Ye Jing, over 40 soldiers from the Fifth Battalion of the First Detachment of the Northern Column and local militia bravely counterattacked the enemy near Chating’an to the north of Dahu Village. Our forces were outnumbered by more than ten to one and were far inferior in equipment, so the Fifth Battalion employed the sparrow warfare tactic—breaking up into small units and striking the enemy in a dispersed manner. The fierce battle lasted from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., after which a sudden downpour provided cover for the Fifth Battalion soldiers and militiamen to safely withdraw. Enraged, the enemy looted the properties of over 80 farming households in areas such as Danzhuzhen and Dakeng in Dahu, taking away pigs, cattle, bedding, clothing, and other belongings. They also spread lime in ponds to poison fish and burned down civilian houses. In this battle, our forces eliminated one enemy company commander and two soldiers; meanwhile, our comrades Liang Yuancheng, Zhu Jianmei, Zeng Xiankai, and Zeng Qiugu made the ultimate sacrifice.
