The Former Site of the Yuwu Counter-Encirclement Battle is located in Yuwu, Yangjiang Village, Sanjiao Town, Lianping County.

In March 1948, peasant associations, women's organizations, and militia groups sprang up like mushrooms in the Dahua area, prompting the enemy to intensify their encirclement and suppression campaigns in the Jiulian region. In March 1948, the enemy organized forces in an attempt to completely eliminate the revolutionary forces in Dahua and Sanjiao, then push straight on to Qingzhou and Reshui to engage the main Jiulian troops in a decisive battle. On March 29, the underground party organization held a special meeting to plan and deploy the counter-encirclement battle. Deng Ji called on the militias of various villages at the meeting to prepare themselves and thwart the enemy’s scheme. Yu Wangxing, head of the 10th branch of the Sanjiao Township Peasant Association, returned to Yuwu immediately after the meeting, convened a militia gathering, conveyed the spirit of the meeting, and carried out combat deployments based on the prevailing situation.

At dawn on March 31, Guan Zhaosa and Mo Bingyi led two companies of the Kuomintang army and the Zhongxin Militia Team to surround Yuwu. The enemy, relying on their superior numbers, attempted to quickly capture Yuwu. Over 20 militiamen defending inside Yuwu used the terrain and fought back tenaciously with homemade cannons against the enemy’s assault. The battle lasted until around noon, when the enemy failed to take Yuwu and, instead, had one machine gunner killed by the militiamen. Subsequently, a battalion from the 276th Regiment of the Kuomintang’s 92nd Brigade came to reinforce from Chuantang, surrounding the Yuwu militiamen on all sides. The Yuwu militiamen fought with increasing bravery. By evening, they had killed four enemies and wounded over ten. Eventually, due to running out of ammunition and being outnumbered, 16 militiamen were captured by the enemy. Except for Yu Jinhui and Yu Ronghui, who managed to escape from prison, the other 14 militiamen were executed by the enemy on April 2 in Huangling, Zhongxin.

In May 2011, a monument was erected for protection by the Lianping County Committee and County Government.
