The Yangtanggang Battle Site is a classic red tourism attraction.

The Yangtanggang Battle Site is located in Yangtanggang, Sanjiao Town, Lianping County (about 300 meters to the left of the Zhongding Highway Sanjiao section).

In 1948, organizations such as peasant associations, women’s groups, children’s corps, and militia units sprang up like mushrooms in the Dahua area. As a result, the enemy intensified their “encirclement and suppression” and “mopping-up” campaigns in the Jiulian region. In March 1948, after failing to take over the Dahua area in the Taling Battle, the enemy remained intent on returning. On March 30, they divided their forces into three routes to surround the Dahua and Sanjiao areas and launched a retaliatory “mopping-up” campaign. The Jiulian Working Committee had previously learned of the enemy’s plan to attack Dahua and made meticulous arrangements. At 7 p.m. on March 29, Deng Ji ordered Zeng Zong and Ouyang Zhen to lead the main militia battalion to Sanjiao and await orders. At midnight, the main militia battalion moved to Yangtanggang and took ambush positions on Qishan Mountain. Around 4 a.m. on March 30, Zhu Yashi and He Sheng each led a squad and hid on a low hill near the highway. Soon afterward, they spotted a large enemy force hurrying along the road from Xiaozhe to Chuanxinting. The 1st Security Regiment and the county police force were at the front, totaling about 1,000 troops advancing on several fronts. When the enemy reached Chuanxinting, Zhu Yashi and He Sheng opened fire simultaneously. Caught off guard, the enemy fell into chaos—the first 200 or so fled forward in panic, while the majority of those behind ran for their lives with their heads in their hands. Zhu Yashi and He Sheng’s two squads continued to hold off and block the enemy approaching from Zhongxin, while Zeng Zong and Ouyang Zhen led the main militia force in pursuing the fleeing enemies heading toward Dahua. The enemy’s front and rear were disconnected and they dared not engage further, desperately fleeing in the direction of Xiuduan. This battle ended in our victory, dealing a heavy blow to the enemy’s arrogance.
