The former site of the Provisional Working Committee of the Communist Party of China in the Jiulian Mountain Area is located at Gongwu in Hongxing Economic Cooperative, Gaohu Village, 2 kilometers north of Jiulian Town in Neiguan Town, Lianping County.

Jiulian was once an independent township under Lianping County (now merged into Neiguan Town), situated 47 kilometers from the county seat. It currently has four villages with a population of over 5,000 and covers a total area of 122.5 square kilometers. The area is densely forested, surrounded by nine interconnected peaks that resemble a lotus flower, hence the name "Jiulian" (Nine Lotuses). In the winter of 1945, over 600 soldiers from the Third Detachment of the Dongjiang Column were ordered to advance into the Jiulian Mountain Area. They established the Jiulian Mountain Area Working Committee in Heping County. As Lianping borders Heping and both are within the Jiulian Mountain region, the detachment frequently operated in Lianping, particularly around the Jiulian Mountain area under Lianping’s jurisdiction, carrying out revolutionary activities. In June 1946, after most of the Third Detachment soldiers were withdrawn northward to Shandong, 58 soldiers remained behind to continue armed struggle in the Jiulian Mountains. They formed the “Provisional Working Committee of the Communist Party of China in the Jiulian Mountain Area,” with Wu Yi as secretary and Wang Biao as deputy secretary. The unit’s designation was also changed to the “Lianhe People’s Self-Defense Corps,” with Wang Biao as commander, Wu Yi as political commissar, Chen Shitang as deputy commander, and Lin Jingqiu as head of the political department. The headquarters was set up at Gongwu in Hongxing Economic Cooperative, Gaohu Village, Jiulian Mountain, using it as a base to shift from covert to overt operations. They actively engaged surrounding villages in Lianping and Heping near Jiulian, mobilized the masses, built people’s armed forces, and sought opportunities to strike against bandits, tyrants, and the Nationalist armed forces. During the Liberation War period, veteran revolutionaries such as Liang Weilin, Zheng Qun, Yan Shangmin, Zhong Junxian, Luo Weiqiang, and Deng Ji fought and lived here. The local people of Jiulian provided support by standing guard, offering food and shelter, and relaying intelligence for the underground Communist Party organizations and the People’s Liberation Army, making great contributions to the liberation cause.

In May 2011, the site was designated for protection with a monument erected by the Lianping County Party Committee and County Government.

Neiguan Town: Located in the northeastern part of Lianping County, Neiguan Town borders Heping County to the east, and neighbors Youxi Town and Gaoguan Town to the south, as well as Yuanshan Town and Shangping Town to the northwest. Originally established as the Neiguan Commune in 1959, it was restructured as the Neiguan District in 1983, became a township in 1987 after the district was dissolved, and was upgraded to a town in 1993. In September 2003, the former Jiulian Town was incorporated into Neiguan Town.
