Lianping Dongshan Pagoda

Dongshan Pagoda is a cultural relic protection unit of Lianping County.

Dongshan Pagoda is located at the summit of Dongshan Peak in Yuanshan Town, five kilometers from Lianping County. Also known as the Scholar's Tower, it was first built in the late Ming and early Qing dynasties. It is the tallest and most imposing ancient pagoda still existing in Lianping County and serves as a symbol of Lianping’s history as an ancient state-level city. The pagoda is hexagonal with seven stories and stands 31 meters high. The original structure was built using fired bricks and lime, and its original lead-cast spire was stolen and later replaced with one made of bricks. In November 1997, Dongshan Pagoda was restored: the foundation and slope protection were reinforced, eroded bricks inside and outside were replaced, wooden floors were replaced with steel mesh levels, the collapsed seventh story was rebuilt, a new cast-iron spire was installed, and a lightning protection system along with an observation platform were added. The restored Dongshan Pagoda was completed in June 1999 and is now a key cultural relic protection unit of the county.

Yuanshan Town: Located in the central part of the county, Yuanshan Town borders Zhongxin to the east, Xishan to the south, Beitou to the west, and Shangping to the north. It covers an area of about 320 square kilometers with a population of approximately 65,000. The terrain is higher in the north and lower in the south, featuring a mild climate, abundant rainfall, and rich resources in forests, minerals, and hydropower. The town administers 16 village committees and 5 urban communities, serving as the political, economic, cultural, and educational center of the county. Established in the 7th year of the Chongzhen era of the Ming Dynasty (1634), it has long been the site of the state and county governments.
