Dongjiang Gallery Scenic Area

The Dongjiang Gallery Scenic Area is a key provincial-supported project planned by the Guangdong Provincial Tourism Development Research Center and the Provincial Academy of Agricultural Sciences. The scenic area is located along the Dongjiang River in Dongyuan County, stretching approximately 76 kilometers in length. It is 7 kilometers from downtown Heyuan, 199 kilometers from Guangzhou, 196 kilometers from Shenzhen, and less than 2 kilometers from the Xiantang Station on National Highway 205 and the Beijing-Kowloon Railway. The under-construction Yue-Gan Expressway runs right beside the scenic area, offering excellent transportation access. Dongjiang Gallery is a brand-new tourist destination that combines Hakka culture, pastoral scenery, science education, patriotic education, agricultural technology, and leisure entertainment.

The first phase proudly launches a Hakka culture tour route along the river section from Mujing Hydropower Station to Sujiawei. Cruise on a luxury yacht, trace ancient biological footprints, enjoy Hakka cultural performances and tea art shows, view dinosaur fossil exhibitions, sample authentic Hakka snacks, and relax amidst the river breeze, bamboo shadows, fishing songs, and leisurely cranes along the Dongjiang banks. While enjoying leisure time at Dongjiang Gallery, you’ll also gain insight into Hakka culture. It unfolds picturesque pastoral landscapes unique to the southern region. Immersed in this “landscape gallery,” you’ll truly experience the magical feeling of “the boat sailing on the river, as if traveling within a painting,” and appreciate the poetic imagery described by Xu Xiake: “Four hundred emerald hues shimmer brightly, like lotus flowers reflecting their colors.”

Dongjiang is the hometown of Ruan Xiaoxian, a pioneer of China’s revolution, and the cradle of revolutionary forces such as the Dongjiang Column.
