The former site of the JiuLian Regional Committee of the CPC and the Headquarters of the Guangdong-Jiangxi Border Detachment is a classic red tourism destination and a patriotic education base.

The former site of the JiuLian Regional Committee of the CPC and the headquarters of the Guangdong-Jiangxi Border Detachment is located at Liujiao Tower in Xinnan Village, Shangwan Town, Dongyuan County.

In February 1947, the Working Committee of the JiuLian Area of the CPC (referred to as the JiuLian Working Committee) was established in Hong Kong, with Yan Shangmin serving as secretary. In March of the same year, Yan Shangmin and other members of the JiuLian Working Committee entered the JiuLian area to lead the restoration of the armed struggle. In June 1948, the Provisional Committee of the CPC Guangdong-Jiangxi-Hunan Border Region sent Huang Songjian and Liang Weilin to Chuantang, where they held an expanded meeting of the JiuLian Working Committee in Baizhukeng. The meeting made five resolutions, dividing the JiuLian area into four war zones: Hedong, Hexi, Lianhe, and Hedong. The JiuLian Working Committee was renamed the JiuLian Regional Committee of the CPC (referred to as the JiuLian Regional Committee), consisting of Wei Nanjin, Zhong Junxian, Zheng Qun, Huang Zhongqiang, Wu Yi, Zhuo Yang, Zhang Huaji, Lin Jingqiu, and Luo Weiqiang, with Wei Nanjin as secretary and Zhong Junxian as deputy secretary. The armed forces in the JiuLian area were reorganized into the Guangdong-Jiangxi Border Detachment of the Chinese People's Liberation Army. Zhong Junxian served as commander, Wei Nanjin as political commissar, Zheng Qun as deputy commander, Huang Zhongqiang as director of the political department, and Wu Yi as chief of staff. It had under its command the 3rd, 4th, 6th, and 7th regiments, as well as two independent battalions.

On August 7, 1948, over 3,000 soldiers and civilians from the Hexi area held the founding ceremony of the Guangdong-Jiangxi Border Detachment in Xiakogang, Shangwan. After its establishment, the detachment achieved five major victories — in Baima, Dahu, Hetang, Daping, and Darerling — known as the “Five Battles, Five Victories,” which completely shifted the situation in the JiuLian area from passive to active. After the establishment of the JiuLian Regional Committee and the Guangdong-Jiangxi Border Detachment, their leading bodies were often stationed at Liujiao Tower until May 1949 when they moved to Laolung after its liberation.

This former site was built in the late Qing Dynasty. The architectural structure is a Hakka-style residence with five rooms on the upper and lower floors and side wings on both ends, facing south with a north orientation. It covers a land area of 2,300 square meters and a building area of over 3,000 square meters.

In June 2011, it was designated as a patriotic education base by the Heyuan Municipal Party Committee and Municipal Government.
