Qiling Mountain Battle Site

The Qiling Mountain Battle Site is a classic destination for red tourism.

The Qiling Mountain Battle Site is located on Qiling Mountain, between Jieyoucao Village in Dengta Town and the Dengta Market in Dongyuan County. The site covers an area of approximately 40 million square meters. Today, only a very small portion of the fortress wall foundations remain at the site.

In 1948, a group of -ists entrenched in Dengta, led by Lai Gunchu and Lai Zizhong, along with remnants of the Kuomintang militia from Dengta Township and the puppet county government of Heyuan County, built strategic fortifications such as bunkers and tunnels on Qiling Mountain. On the 10th day of the seventh lunar month in 1948, Zheng Feng and Huang Ri led over 400 members of the Iron Flow Team, the Yangtze Team, and some local core militias from Shangwan, Zhangxi, Luohu, and Baica, launching a five-day battle that severely weakened the enemy forces, destroyed bunkers and tunnels, and routed the remaining Kuomintang troops, killing or wounding over 100 enemies.

The Qiling Mountain Battle created favorable conditions for the Guangdong People’s Liberation Army’s Yuegan Border Detachment to march toward Likeng and Xichang and join forces with the First Regiment of the Jiangbei Detachment of the Guangdong People’s Liberation Army.
