Baima Battle Site

The Baima Battle Site is a classic red tourism attraction.

The Baima Battle Site is located in Baima Village, Yihuo Town, Dongyuan County.

In October 1948, the Nationalist escort unit was transporting 11 supply ships from Heyuan up the Dong River. Upon learning of this, Yan Shangmin, leader of the Guangdong–Jiangxi–Hunan Border Region Party Committee, along with Zhong Junxian and Zheng Qun, leaders of the Guangdong People’s Liberation Army Guangdong–Jiangxi Border Detachment, conducted a thorough analysis and decided to organize forces to ambush them near the Baima Tax Station in Yihuo. The battle involved all officers and soldiers of the detachment’s Third Regiment, Fourth Regiment, and the River Defense Battalion. On that day, our forces engaged the enemy in fierce combat near the Baima Tax Station for over two hours. This battle achieved a major victory: one enemy company was annihilated, more than 10 enemies were killed, over 30 were captured, and a large amount of war supplies were seized, including one mortar, two machine guns, as well as ammunition, quilts, cotton yarn, felt, rubber shoes, medicine, tires, and more. This significantly improved our unit’s supplies and equipment situation.

Yihuo Town: Yihuo Town is located in the southeastern part of Dongyuan County, in the middle and upper reaches of the Dong River, about 20 kilometers from downtown Heyuan. The town covers a total area of 176.77 square kilometers, including 0.91 million mu of arable land and 21.4 million mu of mountainous land. It governs 9 village committees and 1 neighborhood committee, with a total population of 21,000.

Yihuo Town has significant locational advantages and convenient transportation. The Heyuan–Meizhou Expressway, the Beijing–Kowloon Railway, and the Guangzhou–Meizhou–Shantou Railway all run through the town. The Heyuan–Meizhou Expressway exit is located in Qutan Village, less than 1,000 meters from the town center.
