The Site of the Battle of Majian’ao is a classic destination for red tourism.

The Site of the Battle of Majian’ao is located in Huangcun Town, Dongyuan County.

In December 1945, after the Eastward Advance Unit entered Huangcun, they attacked Zhaiwanzhai Building and drove away the enemy troops that had invaded Huangcun. Unwilling to accept defeat, on January 10, 1946, more than 500 soldiers led by Zhang Zhaowei, the deputy commander of the training regiment of the 63rd Army, launched an offensive from three directions targeting Ningshan and Wenxiutang, attempting to push straight toward the Baiyunzhang revolutionary base. Under the command of leaders such as Liang Weilin, our forces set up defenses and deployed troops at Wai Shan of Wenxiutang, Yangyanggang of Wudong, Caopo’gang at Majian’ao (the main battlefield), Hengkeng, Qiniangcai, and Laolongshe Village to block the enemy. When the enemy advanced from multiple directions, our troops laid landmines along their routes and fired fiercely using machine guns, rifles, and other weapons, throwing the enemy into chaos—many were killed or wounded, and the rest fled in panic. After intense fighting, one enemy company commander was killed, over 80 enemies were injured, and more than 20 were captured. Four light machine guns, over 40 firearms, and a batch of ammunition were seized, significantly weakening the enemy’s morale.

The victory at the Battle of Majian’ao greatly boosted the morale of our troops and inspired the revolutionary struggle of the people in the border region of Heyuan, Longchuan, Zijin, and Wuhua.

Huangcun Town: [Historical Development] Established in the late years of the Qianlong reign during the Qing Dynasty. Legend has it that at that time, a person surnamed Huang built a shop and established a market here, hence the name Huangcun Market. During the Qing Dynasty, it belonged to Lanlingdu, Lanxi Pact. In the Republican era, it was known as Lanxi Township. After the founding of New China, it was renamed Huangcun. It is now Huangcun Town.

[Geographical Environment] Located in the northeastern part of Dongyuan County, at 115°25' east longitude and 23°51' north latitude. It is 116 kilometers from the city center and is the most remote town in the northeastern part of Dongyuan County. To the east it borders Changbu of Wuhua County, to the south it neighbors Zhongba of Zijin County, to the west it adjoins Yetan of the same county, and to the north it is bounded by Zishi of Longchuan County.
