Ruoxi Academy Ruins

The ruins of Ruoxi Academy are a classic red tourism site.

The ruins of Ruoxi Academy are located to the west of Laowei Village, Chuantang Town, Dongyuan County.

During the Xinhai Revolution, the sons of the academy's founder, Ouyang Jun and Ouyang Wei — brothers of Ouyucai — joined the revolutionary cause of Sun Yat-sen, the forerunner of China's democratic revolution. Ouyang Jun was appointed Commander-in-Chief of the Dongjiang National Revolutionary Army and, after his death, his brother Ouyang Wei was named Deputy Commander of the Dongjiang National Revolutionary Army. From 1920 to 1930, the academy was renamed Huanwen Primary School; in October 1939, the first Party organization in the Hexi region was established here; in 1943, it was renamed Rixin Primary School; and in the winter of 1945, Dong’erzhi’s troops were stationed here under Zeng Jin to carry out revolutionary activities. One of the “Five Battles, Five Victories” in the Jiulian region — the battle of Shizinao at Dayu Lake in Lianping — was planned and mobilized here.

The site was built in the 10th year of the Daoguang reign during the Qing Dynasty (1830), facing west with an eastward orientation. It has a total width of 40 meters and a depth of 12 meters, covering an area of 316 square meters. The wall base is constructed from lime stone, and the walls are made of adobe.

In June 2011, the Ruoxi Academy Ruins were designated as a Patriotic Education Base of Heyuan City by the Heyuan Municipal Committee and Municipal Government.
