Former Site of the Heyuan County Working Committee

The former site of the Heyuan County Working Committee is a classic red tourism attraction.

The former site of the Heyuan County Working Committee is located at Li Zuoxin’s Residence in Aotou Group, Meilong Village, Huangcun Town, Dongyuan County.

In August 1939, the Heyuan County Working Committee of the Chinese Communist Party (abbreviated as the “County Working Committee”) was established in the county seat of Heyuan. It was the first grassroots-level Party organization among the county-level cultural heritage conservation units in Heyuan County. At that time, the secretary of the County Working Committee was Li Guangzhong, the head of the Organization Department was Huang Ying, the head of the Propaganda Department was Lin Yaozu, and the committee members were Wu Yimin and Huang Shuyi (female). It was under the leadership of the Dongjiang Special Committee of the Chinese Communist Party and had jurisdiction over the Lan’neng District Committee and the Urban Branch. The secretary of the Lan’neng District Committee of the Chinese Communist Party was Liu Chengzhang, the head of the Organization Section was Liu Ruiting, and the head of the Propaganda Section was Zhang Huaji; the secretary of the Urban Branch was Lu Haogen. In January 1940, the headquarters of the County Working Committee moved from the county seat to Meilong Village in Huangcun Town.

Li Zuoxin’s Residence faces southeast and is built in the style of an enclosed traditional house. Constructed in the early Qing Dynasty, the lower half of the walls is made of rammed earth, while the upper half is built with blue bricks, making it a brick-and-wood structure. The total width is 34.9 meters, the total depth is 27.5 meters, and the site covers an area of 960 square meters.
