Qiyi Barracks
Qiyi Barracks is a cultural heritage site protected by Fengtai District.
Qiyi Barracks is located within Nanyuan Airport. During the Qing Dynasty, it served as a military garrison and was the site of the Nanyuan Divine Engine Corps. In 1922, when Feng Yuxiang was appointed as the Beijing Army Inspector, Qiyi Barracks became the headquarters of the Army Inspectorate. During the 1924 Beijing Coup that ousted the Qing emperor, it served as Feng Yuxiang’s command post. At the time of the Marco Polo Bridge Incident in 1937, it was the headquarters of the 29th Army.
The current total floor area of Qiyi Barracks is 3,912 square meters, facing south. Above the main gate hangs a plaque inscribed with “Army Inspectorate Headquarters,” and on either side of the gate are guardhouses. Upon entering, the first row of barracks features buildings that blend Chinese and Western Gothic architectural styles. The second, third, fourth, and fifth rows have been restored in the style of Qing Dynasty garden architecture, adorned with traditional Russian-style colored paintings. It is a key cultural relic under protection in Fengtai District.
