Wanfangting Park
Wanfangting Park is a national AA-level tourist attraction.
Wanfangting Park is located west of Xiluoyuan Residential Area in Fengtai District, Beijing, on the north side of the South Third Ring Road, covering an area of 10.6 hectares. Originally a green space, historical research indicates that this site was once the location of a villa belonging to the Yuan Dynasty's Liyuan Envoy. In early 1990, the Fengtai District People's Government decided to rebuild the park. The Fengtai District Municipal Gardening Bureau meticulously designed and carefully constructed the park, leveling the land, paving roads, planting flowers and trees, building an antique-style archway entrance, traditional pavilions, residential structures, and a children's playground. Construction began in March of that year, was completed in July, and the park officially opened to the public in October.
As one of the few comprehensive parks along the Third Ring Road in southern Beijing, since its establishment in 1990, it has targeted the surrounding residents as its main service group, primarily providing a place for nearby community residents to exercise, take walks, and engage in recreational activities. With the continuous development of Beijing’s urban construction, residential communities in Yangqiao and surrounding areas have gradually increased. To date, approximately 300,000 people live in the vicinity.
Over the years, the park has actively explored its own development path, starting with the most basic planning and gradually improving its facilities and environment. Currently, besides offering a paintball field where visitors can experience simulated combat shooting, the park also has a professional equestrian club that provides comprehensive horseback riding services. On the west side of the park lies a large water park covering over 10,000 square meters, which serves as a great summer retreat, especially for children. In addition, the park features other children’s amusement facilities such as a sports and fitness plaza, bumper cars, inflatable castles, and trampolines. However, for both the park and its visitors, these offerings are still far from enough, and further efforts are needed.
Currently, the park is accelerating the construction of a comprehensive service building with a floor area of 2,300 square meters, consisting of three above-ground floors and one underground floor, while also engaging in extensive business solicitation. At the same time, the park management office is seeking funding and partnerships in accordance with the approved overall park development plan to carry out the next phase of development and construction, including projects such as a swimming pool and tennis courts. While improving infrastructure and the surrounding environment, the park is also actively promoting itself to enhance its social visibility and establish a positive public image.
