Dabu Guangde Qiming Temple

Dabu Guangde Qiming Temple is a cultural tourism attraction.

“Qiming Temple” was built during the Qianlong reign of the Qing Dynasty and is located in Guangde Town, Dabu County. Situated beneath the 1,000-meter-high Dahengping Mountain, it was historically known as “Niaozishi.” Nestled against majestic peaks and massive overlapping rocks, the area boasts a grand mountainous landscape, and here stands a major temple — “Qiming Temple.”

The scenery outside the temple is unique, with numerous natural caves. It is said that the cave on the left side of the temple stretches for dozens of li and leads all the way to Sanrao Town in Chaozhou City. Inside the temple, there are upper and lower halls, with the central hall enshrining deities such as “Cibeiniang,” as well as statues like that of “Tathagata Buddha,” providing a place for worshippers to pray and seek blessings.

Due to its location at the border of three regions (Meizhou, Zhangzhou, and Chaozhou) across Fujian and Guangdong provinces, surrounded by rugged mountains, dense forests, and numerous caves, the area became a strategic military stronghold. The final battle of the Taiping Rebellion was fought here, where the Taiping Army was defeated by Qing forces. As the saying goes, Hong Xiuquan’s Taiping Rebellion “rose in Jiaying and perished in Jiaying.” During the Liberation War in 1947, it served as a base for the “Chinese People’s Liberation Army Minyuegan Border Column Forces,” led by figures such as Wei Jinshui, Liu Yongsheng, Zhu Manping, and Huang Weili. It was also the site of the former Border Column Party Committee. In 1984, it was designated by the Dabu County People’s Government as a key revolutionary historical cultural relic protection unit. The site has since become a destination for historians, overseas Chinese, and adventure tourists, attracting tens of thousands of visitors each year. Currently, with “Qiming Temple” at its core, relevant departments in Meizhou City and Dabu County are planning to develop a large-scale tourist scenic area centered around cave exploration. They hope to attract insightful investors from home and abroad to support its development.
