The Hall of Reverence (Zou Lu's Former Residence) is a cultural relic protection unit of Guangdong Province.

The Hall of Reverence is the ancestral home of Zou Lu, the first president of Sun Yat-sen University. Located in Renhou Village, Changzhi, Chayang Town, Dabu County, Guangdong Province, it was built during the Qing Dynasty. Facing east and backed by Wugong Mountain, it overlooks Renhou Village. The structure consists of one main building and four side wings, all made of earth and wood. The main building has 18 rooms, while the side wings have a total of 24 rooms, with a construction area of 1,352 square meters and a site area of 1,584 square meters. Twenty meters in front of the main gate stand five stone huabiao (ornamental columns), erected during the Qing Dynasty’s Daoguang era and the Republican period. These stone columns commemorate the glorious historical achievements of the ancestors of the Zou family.

Three Wonders of the Hall of Reverence

There are three wonders associated with Zou Lu’s ancestral home. First, during seasonal changes, for a few days each year, the rising sun shines directly onto the center of the main hall, forming a pattern known as the “Centipede Spitting a Pearl.” Second, although there is lush scenic forest along the flower stands behind the house, not a single leaf has fallen onto the roof tiles for hundreds of years. Third, late at night, when viewed from above, a very bright white halo appears over the ancestral home. These three wonders shroud the entire building in mystery, attracting many scholars and experts to explore its secrets.

In 2010, the People’s Government of Guangdong Province designated it as part of the Sixth Batch of Cultural Relic Protection Units in Guangdong Province.
