Wu Songlu

Wu Songlu is a protected cultural heritage site of Meizhou City.

Wu Songlu was the former residence of Zhao Gongwu, acting chairman of the Andong Province during the Republic of China. It is located in Guye Village, Gaobei Town, Dabu County, Guangdong Province, where the Han River—the second largest river in Guangdong—flows by. The building faces south and was constructed

in 1947.

Wu Songlu is a brick-and-wood structure with a construction area of 452 square meters. It features a two-courtyard, quadrangle-style layout, and on the left side there is also an arched wing and a reinforced concrete “Western-style building,” which serve as auxiliary structures. Throughout the building, the beams and brackets are carved with patterns of flowers, birds, and animals, while the ridges are adorned with high-upturned, palace-style roof ornaments made of lime plaster. The gate is flanked by painted beams depicting figures, landscapes, flowers, and birds, all crafted with exceptional artistry.

On March 13, 2020, the People’s Government of Meizhou City announced Wu Songlu as part of the seventh batch of Meizhou Municipal Cultural Heritage Protection Units.

Gaobei Town: Located in the southern part of Dabu County, Gaobei Town lies along the middle reaches of the Han River and is one of the three major towns in Dabu County. It is also among the first group of centrally planned key towns designated by the province for development, as well as a professional town for ceramic technology innovation. To the east, it connects to Pingyuan and Guangde towns; to the west, it borders the Han River, across from Guye Town; to the north, it neighbors Huliao and [a missing name] towns; and to the south, it is adjacent to Taoyuan Town and Tanjiang Town in Fengshun County. Covering a total area of 809.6 square kilometers, the town administers 36 villages and one community neighborhood committee, with a total population of 83,000 people, all of whom are Han Chinese and speak the Hakka dialect.
