Haiyuan Building

Haiyuan Building is a cultural relic protection unit of Dabu County.

Haiyuan Building is situated in Hounan Village, Baibu Town, Dabu County, and is a county-level cultural relic protection site. Facing south with its back to the north, it was built in the sixth year of the Republic of China (1917) with money earned by Yang Chaonan through business in Malaysia and as a “water passenger.” The building is a classic fusion of Eastern and Western styles, with a Western façade and a Chinese interior. Its floor plan is rectangular, consisting of three stories, with wide corridors both at the front and rear. The columns are round and square, all made of reinforced concrete. The main gate is designed in the style of a European church, while the roof inherits features of traditional Hakka residential architecture, taking on a “gable and hip” shape. The interiors of the second and third floors are constructed with wooden components. The building covers a land area of 696 square meters and has a total floor space of 752 square meters.

Hounan Village: Located in the southern part of Baibu Town, Dabu County, Meizhou City, Hounan Village administers 63 villager groups, with 1,534 registered households and a population of 5,415. The village spans a total area of 13.9 square kilometers, including 2,261 mu of arable land. The annual average temperature is 21°C, and the annual precipitation is approximately 1,552.3 mm, characterized by a subtropical monsoon climate. Major cash crops include rice and flue-cured tobacco, with flue-cured tobacco being the village’s signature economic product. The total rural economic income of the village in the previous year was 59.62 million yuan.
