Monument to the Martyrs of the Sanheba Battle

The Monument to the Martyrs of the Sanheba Battle is a cultural relic protection unit of Guangdong Province.

1964 The Monument to the Martyrs of the August 1st Uprising Army's Sanheba Battle in Dabu is located on Bizhuiwei Peak in Sanhe Town, Dabu County. Constructed in 1964, the monument is square-shaped, standing 15 meters high and 4 meters wide, built from 35 types of uniquely shaped stones and 356 granite slabs. It covers an area of 716 square meters. The front of the monument is inscribed with Zhu De’s calligraphy in regular script: “Monument to the Martyrs of the August 1st Uprising Army’s Sanheba Battle,” with gold-plated characters. The pedestal bears an inscription written by Zhou Shidi, commander of the Second Division. The pedestal stands in the middle of the platform—the upper platform is 8.4 meters long and 12.4 meters wide, while the lower platform is 35 meters long and 25 meters wide. The joints are tightly sealed, and the entire platform is paved with granite slabs. Granite railings line the outer edge of the platform, making the structure grand and majestic.

On August 1, 1927, the Nanchang Uprising troops marched toward Shanghang, Yongding, and Changting in western Fujian, as well as Dabu in Guangdong, aiming to capture Chaozhou and Shantou. In late September, passing through Sanhe in Dabu, Deputy Commander Zhu De led 3,000 troops to defend Sanheba. They fought fiercely against the Kuomintang forces under Qian Dajun for three days and nights, dealt a heavy blow to the enemy, and then withdrew to fight across Hunan and Guangdong. To commemorate the revolutionary martyrs’ great achievements, in 1963 the provincial government allocated funds to erect a monument at Bizhuiwei Peak, the former frontline battlefield. The site covers an area of 716 square meters.

Over the past decade, the provincial government and relevant departments have repeatedly allocated funds for expansion. Facilities such as a memorial pavilion, resting pavilion, corridor, office building, exhibition hall, reception room, guest room, and front and rear gates have been added, turning it into a beautifully landscaped martyrs' cemetery.

In December 1979, the People's Government of Guangdong Province designated it as a cultural relic protection unit.
