Fenglang Tombs

The Fenglang Tombs are a cultural tourism attraction.

The Fenglang Tombs are located on Jinxingmian Mountain in Wanglan Village, Xianzixia Village, Wubeiling, Xiebeiling in Fenglang Town, Dabu County. They were discovered in 1982. In 1986, 22 tombs were excavated. The tombs are distributed on the mountaintop and southeastern slopes, all being rectangular vertical pit earth graves. The largest measures 2.7 meters in length and 1.2 meters in width, while the smallest is 1.3 meters in length and 0.5 meters in width. Their orientations vary between 95° and 327°, and no human remains were found. Burial objects were placed at one end, one side, or in the middle of the tomb pits, with varying quantities. Pottery items were mostly made of clay, with fewer sandy-clay pieces. Types of vessels include zun (wine vessels), hu (jars), dou (bean-shaped vessels), bowls, jars, cauldrons, spinning whorls, and rings. Decorative patterns include stripes, checkered designs, wavy lines, ladder patterns, and diamond-grid motifs. Among them, zun, hu, dou, bowls, and a small number of jars were coated with soy-sauce yellow, soy-sauce brown, or soy-sauce black glazes. Carved symbols were found on 31 pottery items, with 7 of them bearing two identical symbols. Stone artifacts include ge (dagger-axes), spears, arrowheads, adzes, chisels, knives, whetstones, rings, and jade discs, among which adzes were the most numerous and daggers came in diverse styles. Jade items consist of rings and jade discs. Tomb No. 1 and Tomb No. 2 had larger pits, and their burial goods included weapons, tools, and ornaments, suggesting they might be joint burials of couples; the smaller pits likely belonged to children. Similar tombs have also been found in nearby areas such as Jiebeishan, Ba’uan Beitouling, Huliao Lücun Xiabei Mountain, and Jiegao Ridge. These all belong to the “Fubin Culture” remains.
