The former site of the Southern Bureau of the Chinese Communist Party is a cultural relic protection unit of Guangdong Province and a patriotic education base.

The former site of the Southern Bureau of the Chinese Communist Party is located in Cangxia, Dapujiao New Village, Fenglang Town, Dabu County. It is a single main room with two side rooms built with earth and wood, covering an area of 224 square meters. After the “Southern Anhui Incident,” the revolutionary struggle across the country underwent drastic changes. In response to the evolving situation, in September 1941, Fang Fang (alias Wang Zihua), Secretary of the Southern Bureau Committee, reconnected with Comrade Huang Weili. The Southern Bureau’s headquarters moved from Gongzhou to Cangxia in Dapujiao and was set up in a small house. Less than 500 meters away from Cangxia, at Dapujiao Market, the “Tiancheng” trading firm was opened as the contact and command center for the underground organization of the Southern Bureau Committee.

The “Tiancheng” trading firm was located at Dapujiao Market (formerly Yonghe Street), now at No. 5104. The shop covered an area of 52 square meters, with a structure of brick, lime plaster, and tiled roofing, consisting of two floors. The ground floor was a retail space for stationery and daily necessities, while the upper floor served as living quarters for the staff and also as storage. The “Tiancheng” firm played a crucial role in liaison and cover operations. In May 1942, due to betrayal by Guo Qian (former Deputy Minister of Organization of the Southern Bureau Committee) and others, the location of the Southern Bureau’s activities was exposed, and the “Tiancheng” firm suffered severe damage from enemy attacks.

In 1985, funds were allocated by higher authorities to restore the former site of the Southern Bureau headquarters, and a dedicated management team was assigned. Inside, there are photo exhibitions showcasing revolutionary activities from that time. Every year, veteran revolutionaries from the province, city, neighboring regions, and some local primary and secondary school students visit the site.

In April 1985, the former site of the Southern Bureau was designated as a county-level key cultural relic protection unit by the Dabu County People’s Government; in 1995, it was listed as a patriotic education base of Dabu County.
