Tongyi Mansion

Tongyi Mansion is a cultural relic protection unit of Guangdong Province.

Tongyi Mansion is located in Xinzhai Village, Huliao Town. It was built in the 33rd year of the Guangxu reign of the Qing Dynasty (1907) by Lan Jingqing, an overseas Chinese from Xinzhai who made his fortune doing business in Nanyang (Southeast Asia). Tongyi Mansion is a classic example of a traditional hall-style enclosed dragon house. It faces southwest and is situated to the northeast, featuring a flush-gable roof, brick-and-timber construction, post-and-lintel beam framing, and a tiled roof with both yin and yang tiles. The mansion has a total of 104 rooms, with an overall width of 58.5 meters, a depth of 52.3 meters, and covers a total area of 3,100 square meters.

The owner of Tongyi Mansion, Lan Jingqing, once established a school in this building, which has trained and sent nearly a thousand university students to work in various positions across the country. Influenced by Lan Jingqing, his descendants include 28 university graduates, 16 master’s degree holders, and 3 doctoral degree holders.

In 2010, the People's Government of Guangdong Province listed it as part of the sixth batch of Guangdong Provincial Cultural Relic Protection Units.

Xinzhai Village: Located in the eastern part of the county seat, Xinzhai Village in Dabu County, Meizhou City, administers 20 villager groups, with 866 registered households and a population of 2,530. The village covers a total area of 4.2 square kilometers, including 329 acres of arable land. The average annual temperature is 23°C, and annual rainfall is approximately 1,750 mm, characterized by a mild climate and abundant precipitation. Major cash crops include vegetables and honey pomelo. The village’s distinctive economic activities are vegetable farming, fruit cultivation, and commerce. The total rural economic income of the village in the previous year was 14.87 million yuan.
