Yidou Hall

Yidou Hall is a cultural heritage site protected at the provincial level in Guangdong Province.

Yidou Hall is located in Changxing Village, Chayang Town, Dabu County, Meizhou City, Guangdong Province. It was first built in the 47th year of the Wanli era during the Ming Dynasty (1619) by the eighth-generation ancestor of the Xie family, and was later renovated during the Qing Dynasty. The structure faces southeast and is built on a northwest-southeast axis, featuring a two-courtyard layout with two wing rooms and two enclosed towers, seven courtyards, and 143 rooms. A hall plaque inscribed with “Yidou Hall” hangs at the center of the main hall. It has a total width of 71.7 meters and a depth of 51.7 meters, covering an area of 6,050 square meters. There is an independent entrance gate, post-and-lintel construction, load-bearing walls, corbel brackets on the balconies, brick-carved screens, carved horizontal beams, and carved wooden components on the crossbeams and brackets. In front of the building lies a crescent-shaped pond and a pair of flagpole stone bases. The architecture follows the contour of the mountain, with a layout that is lower in the front and higher in the back, creating an orderly and well-planned arrangement. It holds significant historical and artistic value for the study of Ming Dynasty architecture in Dabu.

On December 10, 2015, it was designated as part of the eighth batch of Provincial Cultural Heritage Protection Units in Guangdong Province (No. 40).

Chayang Town: A town under the jurisdiction of Dabu County. In the fifth year of the Jiajing era during the Ming Dynasty, the county seat was established at the southern foot of Chashan Mountain, hence the name Chayang. In 1960, it was restructured as Fucheng District, serving as the old county seat. In 1958, it became Pucheng Commune, later renamed Chayang Commune. In the spring of 1961, after the county seat was moved back to Huliao Town, Chayang Commune was divided into four communes: Chayang, Qingxi, Changzhi, and Gucun. In 1963, Gucun Commune was merged back into Chayang Commune. In 1986, it was established as a town. Located in the northern part of the county along the lower reaches of the Ting River, it borders Xiayang Town of Yongding County, Fujian Province, to the northeast.
