Beijing West Railway Station
Beijing West Railway Station, abbreviated as Beijing West Station or Beijing West, is located near the West Third Ring Road in Beijing, situated on Lianhuachi East Road. It was completed in early 1996 and is one of Asia’s largest modern railway passenger stations.
Beijing West Railway Station is a modern passenger terminal, covering a land area of 510,000 square meters with a built-up area of 170,000 square meters. Its waiting tower stands 90 meters tall in a "品"-shaped layout. The entire station has nine platforms. The total investment in Beijing West Railway Station amounted to 2.35 billion yuan. As the flagship project of the Beijing–Kowloon Railway, trains departing from this station can go directly to Kowloon in Hong Kong.
Dubbed the “largest railway station in Asia,” Beijing West Railway Station has a peak passenger handling capacity of up to 90 train pairs and 600,000 passengers per day, making it one of the world’s largest railway passenger hubs. With the continuous development of rail transport, Beijing West Railway Station has become an important window through which Beijing communicates with the nation and the world. Trains departing from here serve major cities across southern, southwestern, and northwestern China, including Hong Kong, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Wuhan, Xi'an, Zhengzhou, Nanchang, Chengdu, Chongqing, Changsha, Shijiazhuang, Taiyuan, Xiamen, Guilin, Nanning, Hohhot, Xining, Jinan, Urumqi, and Kunming.
As a gateway to the capital and China’s largest passenger distribution and transportation hub, Beijing West Railway Station currently handles 70–90 train pairs per day, with an average daily passenger flow of 180,000–200,000 people and peak daily traffic reaching 400,000–600,000. Annually, it serves nearly 180 million passengers. The station’s north and south squares host the starting points for numerous bus lines. A future subway line connecting Beijing Railway Station and Beijing West Railway Station is also planned.
