Johannesburg Zoo
Introduction The Johannesburg Zoo is home to more than 3,000 species of mammals, birds, and reptiles. The enclosures for lions, elephants, giraffes, and great apes are separated only by moats—without any iron bars—making them very popular with visitors. In addition, the newly designed polar bear habitat and a large aviary where people can walk through are also highly favored by guests. Located in Midrand, Johannesburg, the Transvaal Snake Park showcases a variety of African snakes with highly attractive exhibits. Twice a day, live demonstrations are held showing how venom is extracted from some of the world’s most poisonous snakes.
