Authentic French Christmas in Taipei – The Oldest Christmas Market in France Comes to Town in December

Taiwan’s capital will host the most famous and historic Christmas market in France this December for the first time ever.This year, the Taipei City Government has partnered with the French Institute in Taiwan to bring Europe’s oldest Christmas market from Strasbourg to Taipei. In collaboration with business owners across the eastern and western districts, over 40 local vendors are joining forces to launch the “East-West Treasure Hunt” stamp rally event, spreading festive cheer throughout Taipei.

Dating back to 1570, the Strasbourg Christmas Market boasts a history of over 400 years. In Strasbourg, the market typically opens in late November and runs until New Year’s Eve. Locals set up hundreds of charming wooden chalets around the city’s central cathedral and at various locations throughout town, offering delicious food made from freshly harvested produce and a wide array of finely crafted gifts. It is one of the most iconic Christmas markets in France.

And now, theTaipei Colorful Christmas Market,certified by France, will officially open on December 1st at Taipei 101’s North Plaza.Featuring 15 French-style wooden chalets, the market will offer classic French mulled wine, cured meats, pastries, beer, and handmade artisan goods. Coupled with an elegant and dazzling light corridor installation, two giant Christmas trees standing at 10 and 12 meters tall respectively, a whimsical carousel ride, and the overall festive décor of Taipei 101, the market perfectly captures the essence of the Strasbourg Christmas Market.
