Bishop Grgur Ninski Statue

Grgur Ninski was a renowned bishop in medieval Croatia who strongly opposed the Roman Pope and bravely challenged him. At the time, Latin was the only language used for Mass, and Ninski fought for the right to conduct Mass in the Croatian language.

The Bishop Grgur Ninski Statue was primarily created in memory of Ninski. Completed in 1929, it now stands outside the Golden Gate on the northern side of Diocletian's Palace in Split, reaching about 6 meters in height. The statue of Bishop Grgur Ninski stands proudly and spirited, raising his right hand high, exuding an air of righteousness. It is said that touching the statue’s toes brings good luck, which has led many visitors to do so. As a result, the toes have been polished smooth and gleam brightly.
