A dreamlike landscape straight out of a fairy tale – the Plitvice Lakes

Situated on a limestone plateau between Zadar and Zagreb in Croatia, Europe, Plitvice Lakes National Park is the oldest national park in southern Croatia and also the largest in the country. This nature reserve, founded in 1949, was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1979.

The national park spans a total area of 296 square kilometers. The park, made up of 16 larger lakes, contains 92 interconnected streams and spectacular waterfalls. In addition, Plitvice Lakes National Park includes the surrounding forests, which are rich in flora and fauna — animals such as wolves and brown bears can often be spotted here.
