Strossmayer Gallery of Old Masters

The Strossmayer Gallery of Old Masters is located in Zagreb, the capital of Croatia, and is part of the Croatian Academy of Arts and Sciences. It exhibits artworks donated by Bishop Josip Juraj Strossmayer, after whom it is named.

The gallery houses paintings from European artists dating from the 14th to the 19th century, divided into three major categories: Italian, French, and Northern European (German, Dutch, and Flemish). It also features outstanding works by Croatian artists. With a collection of over 4,000 masterpieces from the Old Masters, 250 of which are on display, it is an ideal place in Croatia to appreciate classical art. Among its most renowned works is the “Holy Trinity” painting from the 15th century, depicting the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. The piece belongs to the early Dutch Renaissance school style and shows connections to the Southern Renaissance style.
