Split Art Gallery

Established in 1931, the Split Art Gallery primarily houses Croatian art from the 14th century to the present, offering visitors insight into the city of Split's artistic evolution. It is renowned for its vibrant permanent exhibitions.

The gallery’s permanent collection includes up to 3,500 works by Croatian artists as well as artists from the former Yugoslavia, Italy, Germany, Austria, France, and the Czech Republic—countries that have been more or less connected to Split and have played a crucial role in its artistic development.

The collection is divided into four main sections: coins, Old Masters, 19th and modern art, and contemporary art. The coin collection, dating from the 15th to the 19th century, is the largest and most comprehensive in Croatia. The Old Masters section features works by eminent artists such as Paolo Veronese and Albrecht Dürer. The 19th and modern art collection is the largest in the gallery, comprising oil paintings, sculptures, portraits, and more. The contemporary art collection includes works from the 1950s to the present, most created by Croatian artists, each a soulful masterpiece.
