Estádio do Dragão
The Estádio do Dragão is a football stadium located in Porto, Portugal, with a seating capacity of 50,399. It was rebuilt on the site of the former FC Porto stadium, Estádio das Antas, and completed in 2003 as one of the venues for UEFA Euro 2004. To this day, the stadium and the adjacent residential and shopping areas have been fully developed.
The reason the stadium's name includes "Dragon" is because the crest of FC Porto features a dragon on its crown. As a result, the stadium is named after this dragon. In 2004, it hosted the opening match of UEFA Euro 2004, where the host nation Portugal faced Greece. Portugal was widely expected to win, but Greece took a surprising 2-0 lead with goals from Karagounis and Basinas. Portugal managed to score only one goal through a Cristiano Ronaldo extra-time strike. Today, the Estádio do Dragão is rated as a UEFA five-star stadium, eligible to host the UEFA Champions League final.
