Hutong Zhang’s Old Beijing Folk Art Museum
Hutong Zhang’s Old Beijing Folk Art Museum is located in Wanping Ancient City, Fengtai District. Here you can explore old Beijing streets, play childhood games, and enjoy traditional Peking opera performances, making it a place full of authentic Beijing charm.
The “Hutong Zhang’s Old Beijing Folk Art Museum” exhibition covers an area of over 600 square meters and displays nearly a thousand traditional handicrafts and folk toys from various parts of Beijing, as well as more than a hundred precious historical photos. There is also a composite artwork titled “The Flavor of Beiping,” created by the museum’s founder, Zhang Yujun, which depicts the urban streetscapes of old Beijing.

“The Flavor of Beiping” is about a hundred meters long, lined with historic shops, and features vivid and lifelike characters. It not only includes well-known old shops such as the “Black Monkey” felt hat store and Baoruixing Pickle Shop, but also portrays the lively scenes of the old Xuanwu Temple Fair and showcases a variety of traditional professions from old Beijing.
Unlike typical museums, the “Hutong Zhang’s Old Beijing Folk Art Museum” also invites visitors to participate in childhood games such as playing with folded paper triangles, jumping rope, playing with sheep anklebones, and kicking shuttlecocks—helping people relive the joys of their memories.

Zhang Yujun, the founder of “Hutong Zhang’s Old Beijing Folk Art Museum,” explained that he deeply misses the warm and simple life of the hutongs from his childhood. He believes this pure old Beijing lifestyle should be preserved as a cultural heritage. This inspired him to create a museum that condenses the eating, drinking, playing, and entertainment of old Beijing into one venue, comprehensively recreating the life of the old city.
