Rock Church (Temppeliaukio Church), also known as the Temppeliaukio Church, gets its name from being built inside a natural rock. The Rock Church is located in Temppeliaukio Square in the center of Helsinki and was designed and built in 1969 by architects Timo and Tuomo Suomalainen. Built inside a hollowed-out rock, the church has a domed roof with a glass ceiling supported by a copper mesh frame, spanning 24 meters in diameter. The outer walls are clad in copper sheets, while the inner walls fully preserve the natural texture of the granite rock. The remaining surfaces still retain the original rugged feel of the rock. The entrance corridor is tunnel-like, and the entrance area is coated with concrete. The entire church resembles a landed UFO, offering a uniquely whimsical experience.

The Finnish aesthetic appreciation of natural simplicity is fully embodied here. At the heart of the Rock Church lies an altar that interacts with the natural light streaming through the glass roof, highlighting the sanctity of the altar. The church can accommodate up to 940 people at once and holds regular services on Sunday mornings. Thanks to the exceptional acoustics created by the surrounding rock walls, the church is also a popular venue for concerts.
