The Sibelius Monument (Sibelius Monument) stands in Sibelius Park, northwest of downtown Helsinki. Jean Sibelius (1865–1957) was a renowned Finnish composer who dedicated his life to the rise of Finnish national music. With exceptional talent and outstanding achievements, he became one of the greatest composers of symphonies and symphonic poems of the 20th century.

The Sibelius Monument is the most cherished urban sculpture work of the Finnish people. Located in Sibelius Park by the sea, surrounded by lush pines and cypresses, the monument consists of over 600 silver-white stainless steel tubes that resemble a giant pipe organ, symbolizing the immortal works of this great national musician. When the sea breeze blows, air flows through the tubes producing sounds that alternate between high and low tones—like nature’s endless tribute to the composer through an eternal melody. A large metal bust of Sibelius is embedded in a red rock nearby, vividly portraying the energetic image of the great composer. His furrowed brow and lifelike expression authentically reflect the demeanor of the musician during his creative moments.

This romantic monument is the masterpiece of famed Finnish sculptor Eila Hiltunen, who spent six years completing it in 1967, the tenth anniversary of Sibelius’s death. A smaller replica of the monument has been gifted as a national present and is permanently displayed at the United Nations headquarters.
