Heureka Science Centre

Officially opened to the public on April 28, 1989, Heureka Science Centre is a modern-style white building characterized by various geometric shapes, located by Lake Keilaniemi in Vantaa, 15 kilometers from the capital Helsinki. This 7-hectare science education center is divided into two main parts: a science park and an exhibition hall. In the outdoor science park, there are 124 groups of rock specimens collected from across the country and 84 species of plants for visitors to observe and appreciate. The exhibition hall consists of a circular hall and a columned hall for displaying basic sciences, an arch hall for special exhibitions, and a hemispherical IMAX cinema.

Here, scientific knowledge is no longer just dull formulas, charts, and numbers, but an engaging journey of discovery. The exhibition halls have done away with the traditional format of guides reciting scripted commentary and removed the “Do Not Touch” signs. Visitors can touch and operate the exhibits themselves, learning, experimenting, and experiencing in person, and enjoying the endless fun of uncovering scientific mysteries. This accessible and entertaining approach attracts groups of teenagers to visit and learn at the modern Heureka Science Centre.
