Nuuksio National Park

Established in 1994, Nuuksio National Park spans 45 square kilometers and is located on the outskirts of Espoo, Finland’s second-largest city, just a stone’s throw from the capital, Helsinki. It’s an ideal spot for travelers to experience pristine nature while visiting the metropolis.

Nuuksio National Park is a blend of rugged rocks and lush greenery. Situated in the transitional zone between oak forests and southern boreal forests, the park features glacial ravines and valleys throughout its area. Its craggy rocks are covered in lichen and pine trees. Lichen, a symbiotic organism of algae and fungi, thrives in clean air. Some of the park's peaks reach elevations of up to 110 meters above sea level, and the hilly woodlands provide a sanctuary for endangered bird species such as the Wood Lark.

One of the most delightful sights here is the occasional appearance of flying squirrels. These charming creatures glide through the treetops using the skin between their limbs as a parachute, looking both adorable and endearing. The flying squirrel has even been adopted as the symbol of Nuuksio National Park. Aside from hiking, visitors can also enjoy cycling, fishing, horseback riding, rock climbing, and swimming. During summer and autumn, the park is abundant with wild mushrooms and berries, which can be freely picked. In winter, it becomes a hotspot for cross-country skiing.
