Bierhaya Island is an oasis during the hot summer months, located near Helsinki’s city center and one of the Finnish capital’s most popular leisure islands. The island actually consists of two very close neighboring small islands, which are connected by a bridge, together forming a recreational, tourist, and vacation destination. To reach Bierhaya Island, you must take a cruise; from early May to late September, cruises transport passengers to and from the island from the Sea Terminal or Grass Bay.

Bierhaya Island is an outdoor leisure island with no permanent residents. One of the small islands features a 500-meter-long beach where visitors can swim or sunbathe. The beach has kiosks, shower facilities, a small sauna, and a harbor for private yachts. There is also a quaint café located in a 120-year-old wooden villa, which can arrange private celebrations. The other small island is a great spot for camping and is home to a clothing-optional beach, one of only two such beaches in Finland—the other being in Pori. This nudist beach is mostly made up of bare rocks and cliffs with very little sand, but it remains quite popular.
